Apart From Me You Can do Nothing.

From today's reading in Luke 5:

After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon,
“Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”
Simon said in reply,
“Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing,
but at your command I will lower the nets.”
When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish
and their nets were tearing.
They signaled to their partners in the other boat
to come to help them.
They came and filled both boats
so that the boats were in danger of sinking.

So many times in our lives we are working so hard for God. But have we asked God what He wants us to do? The disciples found that when they followed Jesus Instructions the catch was overwhelming!

I have been chagrined to find that my efforts get nowhere, but when i commit them to God He makes them bear fruit. Sometimes He lets me know i am fishing in the wrong place and sometimes, I believe, He just needed me to acknowledge His Lordship in what i am doing to bring forth a blessing.

You make a good point. It is so easy to be bull-headed and think we have it all figured out -- and it turns out that it is not God's way at all.

Elizabeth, I am very flattered that you found and posted on my blog, AND chagrined that I did not notice until now! I have looked over your blog and want to read lots more! Your writing is one of those undiscovered treasures for me! I am especially looking forward to reading the short version of your testimony. Someday, if I ever finish college, and get a new Career(my third basically) going i would like to buy your book!

I will recommend you to my Catholic Clan over at Plurk.com where we hang out with such luminaries as Fr. Roderick the famous Podcasting Priest and Fr. Z from WDTPRS and the Wanderer!

No reason to be chagrined. It takes me time to notice things, too. It is a pretty busy and full world out there. Once I get out of the fast lane of classes starting here in Lithuania (where I am for two weeks), I will come over to the site you mention.

Thanks for the kinds words about my writing. God gave me the gift; it was not something I developed. However, I do at times teach writing courses, so I know that writing skills can be developed up to a point.

Good luck with finishing college. Stick with it! That piece of paper can be more important than you realize.
