The Heart of God!


Today is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus! In today's reading the heart of God is laid bare for all to see!

The first reading is a sad one from Hosea, it speaks of the tender parental love that God has for His people, how he nurtured them and taught them and expected love in return and was disappointed! How, like a good father, he restrains his Disappointment and seeks to show pity on them once more.

The Gospel reading today, gives us a glimpse of the Cross, the final moments when a sword peirced the heart of the One Who Loves us so! We pierced that heart and continue to do it, each time we turn our backs on right and truth! And yet that Heart chooses to continue to be our perpetual sacrifice, given on the altar of Catholic and Orthodox Churches all over the world each day, until the coming of the GREAT day of the Lord!

Lastly, Paul, who has glimpsed somewhat of the Love of God's heart, gives us a heartfelt prayer that should be ours all our lives, because it will transform us!

14For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15from whom his whole family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

20Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.~Eph 3
